Extra Shelves For Ikea Display Cabinets

A friend of mine started a project to add shelves to his Ikea display cabinets which looked like an excellent idea, so I stole it! I managed to find the STL file for the clips on thingiverse.com by searching for Ikea Detolf, and was able to print up a dozen sets in no time. A few screws and bolts later, and I have double my original storage. I am really pleased by this upgrade. The plexiglass I choose is a little bendy, but I think if I put infantry up top rather than tanks it will be just fine.

  1. Great idea, I use the clear Perspex display shelves from shops, make a stepped display doubling the back half of the shelf, but I like this more!

  2. Those Ikea display shelve space definitely needs doubling! When you said print them up did you mean using a 3D printer?

  3. Good call. Far too many models to show off with so little space.

  4. Really neat to come across others adding to this amazing shelving unit. I created a post some time ago using acrylic sheets to add extra shelves with wire clips. Might be useful if someone does not have access to the 3D printer.

    1. That is a great post! Thank you for sharing. I think a lot of us need more space for models, so the more ways to accomplish the same thing the better.

    1. Yes, I downloaded the STL file for the clip, made duplicates, and then printed out a set. It was kind of thrilling.
